Giado: Holocaust in the Desert Followed by Talk with Joseph Samuels
About the event
At just 20 years old, Yosef Dadosh was one of 3,000 Libyan Jews deported by the Italians to the Giado concentration camp—an often-overlooked corner of Holocaust history. Amid the searing heat and brutal conditions of the desert, Yosef secretly kept a diary, recording the atrocities he witnessed and endured. Hidden for 70 years, his words are now uncovered, offering a rare and poignant firsthand testimony. Through a powerful blend of animation and a meticulously crafted model of the camp, this film resurrects Yosef’s memories with haunting intimacy. As his story unfolds—one he never shared, even with his children—we are drawn into a deeply human narrative of silence, survival, and the enduring need to remember what history tried to erase.
